Why Doesn’t My Conscience Bother Me? Yet, I Feel Guilty

The Bride of Christ,

Holy Spirit is the veil the bride sees through

with His eyes, His love.

She moves in the power of transformation;

she is being changed into His image

day by day, moment by moment

from glory to glory, by His Spirit.

What do you see?

Ribbons of color form the shape of a beautiful bird that represents a veil, Holy Spirit. When the Bride of Christ, the church, looks through the veil of Holy Spirit she becomes transformed, full of courage, strength, and a clean conscience. She is becoming more like Jesus.

But, why is she experiencing fear, worry, and guilt? Yet, her conscience doesn’t bother her, doesn’t protect her. Blue stands for revelation, and pink is healing. The body of Christ still needs more revelation and healing. She needs to understand how to train her conscience, follow Holy Spirit, and give Jesus all her guilt.

Where are you focused?

For we fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever.  2Corinthians 4:18

Everyone starts out with a conscience, but when we ignore it and do what we know is wrong, we initially feel an underlying guilt. At least for awhile. If the conscience is ignored often enough and not trained by God’s Word, it will die and become useless. If guilt tries to convict us, we bury it by rationalizing our behavior. We make excuses for ourselves.

Does the guilt disappear because we ignore it?

Jesus was confronted by leaders who wanted to trap him. They brought a woman who was caught in adultery (see John 8:1-11). They challenged Jesus to convict her of sin and stone her to death. This was not allowed by the Roman law under which they all had to keep. But, would Jesus keep the Jewish Law of Moses regardless of the Romans? This would bring the Romans against Jesus. Under the Law of Moses, the man involved with the woman should be tried too. But, he wasn’t there. Just the woman.

Jesus wrote on the ground. Then he confronted each person’s conscience.

“Whichever one of you has committed no sin may throw the first stone at her.”

They all left, the oldest ones first. The woman was left without any accusers.

In the presence of God, all accusers will flee. Jesus freed her of his condemnation, then told her to “go and sin no more.” She was given a new clean conscience and told to change her behavior.

The LORD says, “Now, let’s settle the matter. You are stained red with sin, but I will wash you as clean as snow. Although your stains are deep red, you will be as white as wool (Isaiah 1:18-19).

And so, my dear friends, if our conscience does not condemn us, we have courage in God’s presence (1John 3:21).

Your heart can be purified

and clean. Your conscience will work for you as you learn how to walk your walk without falling into sin. Guilt will no longer torment you. When Jesus does not condemn us, we are free! You can then go and change your behavior to remain free of guilt.

What Is Important?

Obey the Spirit’s teaching, then, and remain in union with Christ (1John 2:27).
